Background of the Study
Cultural practices, including traditional festivals, play a crucial role in shaping political behavior in many parts of the world, including Nigeria (Dogo & Mohammed, 2023). In Fika LGA, Yobe State, traditional festivals serve as platforms for community gatherings, the reinforcement of ethnic identities, and the expression of political allegiances (Aliyu & Abdullahi, 2024). These festivals, which celebrate the cultural heritage of the area, are not just events for socializing but also for political mobilization and public discourse. They often bring together political elites, community leaders, and ordinary citizens, providing a space for the discussion of political issues, the reinforcement of local power structures, and the shaping of political behaviors (Yusuf & Bashir, 2023). This study explores how cultural practices, particularly traditional festivals, influence political behavior in Fika LGA, focusing on their role in voter mobilization, political alliances, and participation in local governance.

This study aims to fill this gap by evaluating how traditional festivals in Fika LGA affect political behavior, including the ways in which they influence voters' attitudes and the political decisions made during elections.

The findings will be beneficial for political analysts, policymakers, and community leaders seeking to understand the role of culture in shaping political engagement. Additionally, the study highlights the intersection of culture, politics, and governance, offering insights into ways cultural events can be used to enhance democratic participation.
